DigiTay: Connected

This project aims to address current issues facing tourism businesses in adopting digital technologies to improve their business operations and customer experiences. The project will commission a provider or group of providers to deliver an accelerator style programme to 100 businesses in the sector.

The objectives for the accelerator project are:

  • Foster innovation in tourism and travel through the use of digital and emerging technologies.
  • Enhance visitor experiences, increase efficiencies, and improve business resilience.
  • Support the sustainability and growth of travel and tourism businesses in the Tay Cities Region.
  • Build a lasting community for learning and collaboration.

The key components of the accelerator project will include:

  1. Small Grant Distribution
Administer small grants (£1 – 2k) to participating businesses to support technology adoption. These grants will be used to trial a technology solution.
  2. Cohort Based Delivery
    – Deliver the programme in thematic cohorts (e.g. hospitality, visitor attractions, experiences, travel services).
    – Tailor content, training and technology to focus to each subgroup’s specific needs.
  3. Tech Solution Support
    – Guide businesses through the identification, selection, and implementation of a digital technology solution.
    – Act as an intermediate between the businesses and the technology provider, communicating technical concepts in a digestible and understandable way.
    – Provide practical, hands-on support to integrate these solutions into business operations.
  4. 1:1 Business Support
    – Offer tailored one-to-one advice and mentoring throughout the programme.
    – Help businesses troubleshoot implementation issues.
    – Help businesses evaluate technology effectiveness.
  5. Community Building
    – Establish a community of practice where businesses can collaborate, share knowledge, and learn from each other.
    – Use online platforms, group sessions, and networking events to build momentum and lasting relationships.
    – Signpost businesses to future funding opportunities and events.
  6. Evaluation & Impact
    – Conduct post-programme follow-up to track outcomes and gather feedback.
    – Deliver a final evaluation report measuring digital adoption, business impact, and return on investment.
